Gerovassiliou
Domaine Gerovassiliou – Thessaloníki
The family estate of Vangelis Gerovassiliou stretches over a few hundred acres of privately owned vineyards on the slopes of Epanomi, 25 km from Thessaloniki.
After his studies at the School of Agriculture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and his specialization in oenology and viticulture at the University of Bordeaux, Gerovassiliou produces, in 1986, his first wine at his family-run winery from estate grown grapes. Since then, he vinifies Greek and international grape varieties. In his effort to promote old indigenous varieties, he continues to plant forgotten clones, his aim being to preserve them and produce unique wines.
The reward for his efforts has been a world-wide recognition of his wines.
In addition to his passion for producing quality wines, he is interested in enhancing the vine and wine inheritance: In 1976 Vangelis Gerovassiliou started collecting various pieces of unique significance relating to the viticulture, wine making, botteling and barrel making processes from alle over the world.
Especially the corkscrew collection, which he started in the 1980s, enumerates more than 2000 pieces and classifies Gerovassiliou among the most important worldwide corckscrew collectors.
The Gerpvassiliou collection of corkscrews and vini-viniculture tools is presented in the Gerovassiliou Wine Museum, at the heart of the winery within the estate, next to the underground cellar and the tasting room.
